It’s strange doing expresso machine reviews, after all, surely the only way to get a valid review is to check one out is to taste the coffee yourself? And with taste you, the drinker are always going to be the final judge. All that is true but (and there is a but) in the case of quality machines such as the DeLonghi 3300 Magnificamaking a review that mixes both the clear dry facts with real world user experiences, good and bad does, I think present a worthy balanced review that is helpful.
So lets kick off and have a look at the Magnifica ESAM 3300 in more detail
One of the most important features in any good expresso machine, that is in the 3300 is the Coffee Bean grinder. It’s a fact that freshly ground beans are essential for the best tasting brews. So you’d should certainly expect any machine in this sort of class to have one. The DeLonghi 3300 one is a 7oz container, it is easy to fill, grinds well and critically, is easy to remove and clean out, one minor criticism some make is that it fills irregularly resulting in you needing to clean more often but I think this is a minor thing as the clean up is very easy, simple and fast.
The DeLonghi ESAM3300 Magnifica Expresso Machine has two steel boilers that give a very even level of heat distribution. This is very important a since as pros will tell you and new users soon find out, hot spots in boilers spoil your brews with an unsavoury mix of burnt and underdone coffee! The boilers are powered by 1150 watt output, basically that means high heat of the level needed for even hard to make mixes such as French Roast.
If you drink more than one cup in a sitting then you also want to be able to keep the brew at a nice temperature for a reasonable length of time. If you do then the Magnifica 3300 has a good Reheat feature which keeps your coffee at a nice heat for those extra cups. Of course this is not indefinite, but that is a rule for any coffee, don’t let it sit too long as it will lose it’s freshness.
The electronic thermostat makes sure brewing temperatures are accurate and the adjustable spigot is good for making different sizes cups.
The 3300 Magnifica is flexible and can do everything from tiny espressos upto tall mugs. It also has a Cappucino System that rotates 180 degrees and so can suit milk containers of different sizes.
For everybody who is a bit absent minded or rushing out the door to work after your morning coffee there’s also a 3-hour auto shutoff function.
One of the things that all expresso machine owners hate is the care and cleaning. With the ESAM3300 Magnifica this could be said to have been changed from “awful” to “not so bad”! This is achieved by using a removable water reservoir that allows very easy and fast maintenance. So where with some machines the job is hard and you put if off, which results in bad calcium build ups, this need not happen with the 3300 unless you are very lazy about it! The machine also tells you when you need to decalcify.

Pros and Good stuff
The ability to remove the brew mechanism to clean. This is critical. It makes sure you get optimal operation for years.
The coffee made by the Delonghi 3300 is like you get from Jura, Rancillo and Expobar models costing 2-3 or more. It is even close to real Italian!
Great crema, hot temperature, rich flavor
Excellent coffee. Great crema. Superior to most coffee outlets.
The simple to adjust cup sizes and brew strength are excellent.
It is extremely fast to warm-up.
Cons and Complaints
There’s a bit of weekly upkeep needed and it’s noisy.
Be sure to use good beans. I’ve found that only non oily, 100% Arabica are good and that oily beans can clog it up. (we have also seen some users saying this is not a problem so are not 100% on this con)
Cup warmer is not very good. But with double walled this isn’t a problem.
It does not have an auto turn on function but as it has a fast warm up it is not too much of a difficulty.
The instructions seem to have been written by someone with English as a 2nd language. It can take a while to work some things out.
The grounds container fills irregularly which tends to make the warning light go off prematurely so you end up emptying more often than you should.
Summary
Overall the features and advantages of this Made in Italy espresso machine present it as, objectively excellent. the user experiences support this well, the pros and strong and cons hardly deal killers in most peoples language we believe. There’s nothing perfect after all. While we can’t guarantee that you’re going to love the Magnifica 3300 coffee machine we rather suspect that you can expect to.
